BU – a warm committee

Upkeep of the second-largest privately owned library in Sweden requires a huge effort on the part of our Library committee. Aside from keeping the library open for business and deciding which new literature to purchase, we host British evenings and book-swapping days. Once per semester we all gather for a work day – we clean the entire library meticulously and then make a thorough mess of things at the subsequent dinner (sexa). If this is something that catches your fancy, and if you like to spend time with wonderful people and to care for even more wonderful books, you should join our committee immediately!

About the Library

Only the King has a larger one

Västmanlands-Dala nation maintains a brilliant library, a haven for study and relaxation. The library is the largest national library and also one of the largest privately owned libraries in Sweden, with nearly 90,000 titles on the shelves. Adjacent to the library is a quiet reading room with 26 reading spaces and a bookable group room. Wireless internet access is available in all rooms.

The Library Committee manages the library.

The book collections

The library has an extensive collection of Swedish fiction, which is kept up to date through new purchases several times a semester. The collection ranges from the old classics to the latest books and books with a local connection.

Over the years, the library has accumulated a lot of literature about Västmanland and Dalarna, as well as literature by people with ties to that part of the country.

Finally, the library has a lot of reference literature, especially in law where we have several reference works, including Nytt Juridiskt Arkiv, Regeringsrätten Årsbok and Svensk Juristtidning. In the fields of theology, history and social sciences, we also have a lot of general literature.

However, if you are missing a book, any compatriot has the opportunity to submit suggestions for purchase. The proposals are considered like all other proposals by the nation’s library committee.
